Welcome Message from the Principal

Dear Early Childhood Families,
Ms. Watts
I am honored to continue to serve as the Principal for the Early Childhood Campus at Prospect Hill Academy Charter School. My background has very much prepared me for this important responsibility at this very moment. I grew up in New Jersey and received a degree in leadership from Johnson and Wales University in Rhode Island. I have also earned several certifications for management, school, and organizational leadership at the University of Massachusetts, Boston College, and Boston University. This specialty area informs my leadership approach, as I view literacy as the foundation of learning for liberation, access, and opportunity for all students. In my most recent course work at Lynch Leadership Academy at Boston College, I have used my learning to ensure all adults teach with the expectation of all students meeting grade-level standards.

I proudly joined Prospect Hill Academy Charter School (PHA) in 2008, following six years of service as the Out-of-School Time Director, I then moved into the vice-principal role for the past seven years. My career in education began as a leader in youth programming, where I created opportunities for students to become successful learners before being named vice-principal. I have over ten years of experience in leadership, management, coaching, training, and development of teacher leaders, students, and families in youth development, out-of-school time, and early childhood education. As a seasoned leader, my attention to adolescent developmental needs comes through in my everyday work as a leader at the Early Childhood Campus at PHA.

These accomplishments are all the more inspiring in light of my challenging background. I was raised in part by my grandmother and was in and out of foster homes, which resulted in caring for myself during my last two years in high school. I also supported my teen sibling while in college and raised a son on my own. Through all these challenges, I have always persevered, and I have translated this attitude into believing in all my students. I care for each of my three-hundred plus students and want what is best for them- which is why I will be firm in holding them to high standards and will genuinely believe in their abilities to learn despite any challenging circumstances they may face. It is my belief, students learn best and have the most excellent chance of success in a smoothly managed atmosphere, where they are inspired, respected, and pushed to do their utmost best. I also understand that a collaborative school environment is vital to creating successful teachers and students. Therefore, I will continuously seek out partnerships with parents and community partners to provide enriching experiences for all students at the Early Childhood Campus.

During my free time, I enjoy reading, learning about different cultures, becoming a runner, and spending time with family.

I am looking forward to continuing my service to the students and families of the Early Childhood Campus at PHA as the campus principal.

Sincerely,

Principal Johnson
