August 18, 2020
I hope this update finds you and your families safely enjoying the summer days of August even amidst the global COVID-19 pandemic that continues to upend the way we work, play, and live together. At PHA, we continue to be nimble, flexible, and expect the unexpected. We maintain focused on protecting the health and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff while remaining true to our mission and our commitment to providing an equitable and excellent education for every child within any of our learning models.
On Thursday, August 13, like most school districts, we submitted our Reimagining School: Return to Learning Plan to the Department of Elementary & Secondary Education (DESE). In this plan, we stated that the first day of our phased hybrid model would be September 28, 2020 for our students in grades K and 1 as well as our highest needs students. We would then phase in additional grades in two-week intervals. It is important to point out here that we have designed a fluid and flexible interoperable (meaning hybrid and remote ready) blended learning model with a phased reopening approach.

Kindergarten and grade 1 are now scheduled to start hybrid learning on October 26, grades 2-3 on November 9, and grades 4-12 on November 23, 2020. The start of the school year remains unchanged at September 14 for fully remote learning for all grades.
