Students Proudly Showcase Their Work in Public Exhibitions

1st Grade Community Showcase
Our 1st grade students wrapped up their first unit of study, "Building Strong Communities," by completing their first project of the year. On November 14th, they proudly showcased their work to family members, staff, and their classmates.

For the book access project, students were asked to complete a project that answered the question, "How can we increase access to books for children and families in our community?" Students worked collaboratively to complete a variety of different projects, including a model of a little free library, a mini book collection, signs about the importance of books for kids, a book box, and a book series.

5th Grade Exhibition Night
5th grade students presented learning from the first quarter of the school year during their Exhibition Night on November 20th. They shared learning from each content area through recently completed projects. Student work included presentations on composting, personal maps demonstrating key places in students' lives, and an area group project in which students calculated the area of images/designs they created. Families, staff, and other students in the community visited to learn from our 5th grade scholars.

10th Grade Zine Project Presentations
Our 10th graders recently celebrated the end of their Quarter 1 zine project. Students spent time reading each other's zines and giving each other positive feedback on sticky notes. Copies of their zines will be displayed in a "Zine Library" located in the Learning Commons. See a few highlights below.

The purpose of this project was for students to practice memoir style writing using contemporary memoirs as model texts. They practiced writing with imagery, figurative language, and using an authentic voice to explore their past, their identity, and their perspective on America. And finally, they collaged using magazines to pull their writing together, exploring how to use visual symbolism to represent their writing.
